Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting downloaded machine embroidery files involves checking your file format, adjusting design settings, and preparing your machine properly.
1. Check the File Format and Size
Match your machine brand: Every embroidery machine reads a specific file format (such as .PES for Brother, .JEF for Janome, .DST for industrial formats, or .EXP for Melco). Using the wrong format means your machine cannot read the design.
Convert if needed: Use embroidery editing software to convert the downloaded file into your machine's exact required format.
Check the hoop size: Ensure the design dimensions fit inside your physical embroidery hoop. A design that is too large for your hoop can cause the needle to strike the plastic frame and break.
2. Prepare the Machine and Materials
Match the needle: Use a fresh embroidery needle (usually a size 75/11 or 90/14) suited to your fabric weight.
Choose the right stabiliser: Hoop your fabric tightly with the correct stabiliser (cut-away for knits and stretchy fabrics; tear-away for stable woven cottons).
Thread correctly: Re-thread both the top spool and the bobbin. Use high-quality embroidery thread (like polyester or rayon) and embroidery bobbin thread.
3. Test Before Stitching on Final Fabric
Do a test stitch-out: Always stitch the design on a scrap piece of fabric that matches your final project using the same stabiliser and thread.
Adjust tension: If loops show on top or bobbin thread shows on the bottom, adjust your upper thread tension according to your machine manual.
Monitor the first few minutes: Stay with your machine while it stitches the first colour layer to catch nests, jams, or needle breaks early.
